“A while ago I was camping, when I got to my campsite I saw rubbish everywhere, this made me really sad and got me thinking that we have really messed up our planet, our home. When I took a closer look, I discovered that a lot of the rubbish was actually plastic, plastic lids in particular.
So I decided to look into this, and quickly discovered bottle top lids are really big problem for major recycler’s. They are so small they literally just fall through the cracks of the machinery and from there, get swept into landfill. We don’t want these going to landfill. Why? Because in Australia alone we consume over 200 Olympic swimming pools full of lids every year! That’s not sustainable.
From that day on, I made it my mission, and now Rethink Recycling’s mission, to rescue as many lids as we possibly can from landfill, our oceans and our forests, and keep them in a circular economy.”
